>>45978509Ohmori's era has been troubling and uncertain.
XY is often conflated with the "downfall" of Pokemon, but it was a solid release for Junichi Masuda's career. Each of his games (RS > DP > BW1 > XY) represented a comprehensive leap in gameplay and technology, and this was no exception. Passive multiplayer, character creation, interactive Pokemon, transparent EVs, and of course the move from 2D to 3D. All while fine tuning previous features like the Berry Planting, VS Recorder, PokeRadar, and Battle Maison as an improved Tower/Subway.
SM and SwooSh on the other hand wants to reinvent the series with a bunch of radical new ideas. The problem is, not enough time or energy is being put into them.
> Island TrialsNice, rethinking the Pokemon progression system. Too bad most of the "challenges" were unfinished or nonexistent. Electric Trial is just a black screen with a sound test. Mina didn't even have a trial. Dragon Trial is literally just a hallway. etc. And after all that fuss about "shaking up the formula", SwSh just went back to doing Gyms again.
> Pokemon MountsActually a cool idea! .........Oh wait, let's give them a Rotom Bike instead. lol, sorry.
> Wild Area Super cheap looking and unrefined. Pokemon pop in and out of the ground instead of living in the world organically. Should've been given more time in the oven.
> Z-MovesReplaced almost immediately with Dynamax, lmao.
> Online environment is thoroughly confusedAfter the very clear progression of multiplayer systems (Gen 4 Wi-Fi > Gen 5 C-Gear > Gen 6 PSS), the SM era completely reinvented the wheel with the Festival Plaza. Only for that to be replaced by the Y-Comm in SwSh. ??? Like, can we make up our minds? Is Pokemon going to have an online hub world like before? Or live player communication? This is the biggest overarching issue with the Ohmori era to me. There is no clear vision for what the series is going to be. It all feels like a bunch of little, unpolished experiments.
