But why? It's not like the animations are anything crazier than what's been done by Gamefreak themselves. It's still pretty simple, it just gives the 2D sprites a bit more dimension and movement

how is it any more animated than, say, the Gen 5 sprites? Or even the current ones? It's minimal movement on repeat. You make it sound like these sprites have 100 unique animations and are jumping all over the place.

Is this running on GBC hardware? looks really good. Genuinely can't be real. I really do want Pokemon to return to 2D though, they were so much more expressive then. A style like Octopath where everything's a 2D/3D hybrid with highly detailed spritework could really work for the series.

what's the needless movement? The cascoon twitching every so often? the dustox flapping its wings? How is that overly animated? It's pretty simple and seems like the bare minimum in terms of giving these sprites a bit more life than just them being static

It doesn't even have an autistic cameraman zooming and panning around for no reason, causing the already pixelated sprites to look like total garbage.

Jesus Christ did I hate how Battles look in Gen5.

The problem is the size of the sprites, they are too big, both frontsprite and backsprite.
Since Cascoon and Dustox are small pokémon, you don't notice it, but if was big pokemon like Gyarados it would look awful. It's hard ro make a full body backsprite, only gen V did and the camera makes it look weird sometimes.
Other than this, 10/10 animation.
