Just started a new SS Nuzloke a few days back and I just found my first shiny!!!

Companies like high fashion labels will actually go so far as to burn unsold stock because part of their business model is exclusivity and artificial scarcity: but I don't think that has ever been part of the vidya industry.
A quick google says 31 million copies of Pokemon Red and Blue were sold.
Nintendo has no reason to facilitate the sale of repros nor protect the second-hand market.
I bet they could make more money in a year on prints of Pokemon games than they do on new games that don't have Pokemon, Mario or Zelda in the title.
One reason I suppose is that letting it become hard to get a copy of Black and White 2 protects future sales of Jet Black and Blinding White 2x for Switch.
But is that really significant? I bought Alpha Sapphire even though I've got Sapphire. I doubt there's 1000 people in the world that would refuse to buy the remake because they got the original who otherwise would have bought the remake.
