I would guess it's so that you hear all the "proper" versions of the music before getting it, rather than getting it in Goldenrod, turning it on and then never hearing the proper version of over half of the OST.

it was flawed because the BGMs weren't perfect copies of their GBC selves but still staggeringly soulful

fucking 8-bit mixes for even the new shit and availability on the pokégear for everything you can't otherwise experience in-game, are you fucking kidding me? what a difference 11 years does to a developer

I think they still cared in BW. The problem is that BWs local Dex wasn't well received and BW2 was much better received since it included past Pokémon and past characters.

However they then focused too much on it, which made the two following regions being Kanto allusions.

BW national dex have few REALLY good designs. Had Unova got the Gen IV new designs it would be praised as the best Pokemon game ever.
