This seems to be a more popular pick for this sort of thing, but it's probably because Blastoise does away with around 50% of what made Squirtle a good design, while Wartortle takes that an expands upon it. Blastoise has its appeal, but its a very different one from its prevos imo.

There’s a cool picture that floats around of a theoretical Blastoise if they kept the theme built upon by Wartortle. Not perfect, but I like it.
