A suspect test for Spectrier in gen 8 OU has started:

Will end on the February 5th. What's surprising is that this seems to be the first suspect in a longer while happening during a big tournament, namely SPL.

It's undeniably broken but it's odd they'd suspect this first instead of Magearna.
Spectrier is linear as fuck and can be handled at team builder like Dracovish could
in theory it's easier to handle than Vish because Tyranitar isn't deadweight, especially with Urshifu gone
Magearna fucks you up so many different ways with its unpredictable sets, bullshit bulk, offense and ability

Nobody uses Mud Shot. The real problem is that it can also cripple switch-ins with Will-O-Wisp and that it can set up two different kind of boosts. Definitel needs to go though it should have been quickbanned in the first place.

If it still had Pursuit. Without Pursuit Spectirer just chips it on the switch-in, switches to something that doesn't care much about a defensive Ttar (especially not special Snarl Ttar) and then comes in back later. It's same logic with "bro just use this water immunity to deal with Dracovish". Even disregarding the fact that it completely warps teambuilding it's not even that reliable of an answer.

just run SE coverage for whatever you anticipate to switch in. it's easier than ever with urshifu gone, especially with ice beam
if you need healing wishpass with clefable, which is viable again since urshifu is banned

Balance is one of the most overrated concepts in competitive games. Some of the greatest competitive games of all time (Melee, Starcraft) never had and would arguably be ruined by balance patches. The existance of smogon is at its core fueled by karenfaggotry because the extremely casual audience of Pokemon couldn’t stand seeing their childhood bro be dead and forgotten even in a purely competitive environment.

You have a point, which is why shit like Moody is banned despite only being accessible for shitmons. It's not necessarily "unbalanced". It's just unfun cancer. Most of the Pokemon that get tested and banned aren't literally so unbalanced that nothing can defeat them, they just strain teambuilding and lead to degenerate team structures. The Dracovish metagame was pure cancer with all these fat Seismitoad + Wish builds.

Yeah but the problem is it's a very dedicated check, it does almost nothing else and if the opponent doesn't have Spectrier, it might be effectively a 5v6 situation. Uninvested atk and spatk make its damage output very poor and, while bulky, it can't offer any utility for the rest of the team or set up because of Assault Vest

lando intimidates, defogs, and explodes. not much else needed. cinderace is a great offensive pivot, and unless you're running banded, has 3-4 STABs and will punish almost anything played wrong. Spectrier is basically braindead ghost cannon, and magearna is a strong set-up sweeper.

Oh and the crazy part is that even if you people wish Pursuit was a thing, NatDex OU actually suspect tested and banned spectrier 2 days ago because turns out that even with Pursuit, Spectrier snowballs out of control, Pursuit only keeps choice-locked sets in check but as far as the eye can see, all Spectrier does right now is burn shit, hex them and then sweep.

this is a bad Tyranitar set to me, Tyranitar has 95 SpA, just 10 less than Rotom, and so can viably run special moves and just punt its 134 Attack.
or just run Crunch anyway for Spectrier and Latios
Dragapult manages fine with 100 SpA and has no defensive value, uninvested AV or special bulk + boots ensures Spectrier will never break it
in fact, two way offense is why Magearna is worse than Spectrier, since Shift Gear sets can overwhelm special walls with Iron Head + fliches while boosting Stored Power and recovering with draining kiss or pain split.

How good is "remotely good" to you? Imo Obstagoon, Diggersby, Porygon 2/Z are all good enough to see usage in OU. Then there are gimmicky picks like Linoone and Indeedee, who fit certain teams. Chansey exists too.

Karenfags can be annoying as hell, but Game Freak created them by making the Pokemon so unbalanced (There's no way Melee or Starcraft are anywhere near as unbalanced as Pokémon, even to the point of contradicting their own damn lore.)

Flygon doesn't get Stealth Rock, when broken shit like Blissey gets it even though it doesn't at makes sense for Blissey at all and Flygon is an Antlion, an animal know for setting traps.
Ledian is crap even in ZU. ITs unusable in place where unusable Pokemon are put.
Ice type having 1 resistance and 4 weaknesses.
Fairy resists Bug for no other reason than to shit on Bugbros.
Charizard and Typhlosion have the exact same stats, but one gets to have an actual movepool and every gimmick under the sun, while Typhlocucks are stuck spamming one move that's resisted by the most common type in the game and becomes useless the moment Sneaky Pebbles is pressed.

Fuck they don't all need to be Mega Fug but Lame Freak is so bad at game balance that I'm convinced they get off seeing some Pokemon spend their entire existence as nothing but failures.

It's kinda ridiculous when you think about it. Sure It's impossible to truly balance almost 1000 mons but even then they only need to consider the final forms and the 1 stage mons so the number gets reduced to about 1/4 or 1/5 of the total and while yes still a massive amount of work it's still possible to balance those mons, everyone deserves to have his favorite mon having some viability and it's very disappointing having almost 200 mons just being plainly awful.

Spectrier is way less of an issue than Cinderace and Magearna. While Spectrier has multiple checks and support TTar walls, there is no mon that checks all of Cinderace and Mag's sets. I've won so many games because my opponent guess my Mag set wrong, and so many games can be won simply by setting up screens on the right mon and setting up Mag. Cinderace is just a dumb wallbreaker you need Pex to check. It really makes no sense the coverage they gave it in Sucker Punch (as a fucking soccer player) and Gunk Shot just so it can hit everything under the sun.

I often see the main complaint about many of the banned/potentially busted Pokemon is that you can cheese people with gimmicks due to their movepool being so versatile, eg. >>46002080 In open team sheets meta it wouldnt be possible to lose a battle simply because you guessed a set wrong. If a Pokemon is broken regardless (eg. Dracovish) then that would be a good reason to ban.
