Can I get a quick rundown on the pokemon storyline? I'm thinking of getting sword/shield but I don't feel like investing 500 hours into 10 older games just to know the story up to this point.

Nearly every game is pretty self contained. You don't really need to know the story of previous games unless you're playing BW2 or GSC. There isn't even a single character in Sword/Shield who appeared in a previous game.

I would wait. Like at least until pokemon day to see if remakes are coming. Games are fun with all the dlc and raids. But the story is meh. The final battle execution is nice, but I think the story was a little bit a critique against ishihara and nintendo higher ups.
So in my opinion wait for dp remakes and have a fully populated game again. Dunno if the wild area as a beginner is as full as it was back then

There are little refrences to areas in other games here and there, and in the dlc there's a part that relates to SM and a character from SM, but even then it's not to important. As a whole, all the games are pretty disconnected from each other so there's not much to worry about.

Most games don't connect in any meaningful way to playing, I recommend not getting sword and shield though. If you only got a switch play Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu instead.

Yes. Platformer collectathons are my favorite video game genre. BOTW and Odyssey are fucking amazing games, better than any Pokemon game.

I grew up playing super mario world and all the 3D mario games, they are all great anon. I'm sorry you don't like platformers or open world games.
