They both did something unique, Galar didn't just do your regular gym challenge they actually gave them all unique puzzles like the trials in alola. It was the best of both worlds.
Keep in mind SM doesn't have the national dex either and no one complained about that. SWSH isn't really much different except they made sure you can actually catch them all in-game instead of needing to transfer which is good because Home costs like $15
Everything else is spot on though, Alola was massively comfy and soulful. Galar feels like Alola-lite by comparison but i'm glad they didn't stoop as low as LGPE did by regressing all of the progress Gen 7 made to shake up the formula.
