Because the only way you're allowed to play is the hardcore competitive way. You have to play in set mode, you can't use items during battle, you pretty much need to EV train your pokemon for the major battles of the game because a lot of them have mega evolutions while you don't even have a mega bracelet, and other shit like that.

I quit playing after I beat Blaine because that's about when I got sick of the game's grindy nature.

Game prides itself on difficulty but I was able to beat it with PU shitters with little gimmicks or synergy. The Elite Four is just Ubers spam you can brute force.

Not really on-topic, but I hate romhacks that go beyond creating improved teams and movesets in an attempt to increase difficulty. Not allowing switching after the CPU faints is a prime example of something that is largely an annoyance when playing; it makes training outside of wild battles inefficient and actively punishes you for using frail/shitmon. I started Polished Crystal recently, and it keeps disappointing me with various changes. I just want a romhack of Crystal that lets you get most Johto mon before the postgame while fixing the shit stats and movepools of those mon.

You know what I meant. If I ever made a hack, it would just relocate the Gen 2 pokemon stuck in Kanto to Johto while rebalancing everything to make shitmon a little better. Maybe I would include additional trainer battles or some other grinding method to make the level curve flow better before Clair and Red. I’m fairly new to playing romhacks, but I’ve seen how autistic the community is on various forums. I don’t want some grand OC filled adventure; I just want some of the weaker points of a good game fixed.

When you play against another human being, you don't get free switches. Same goes for battle facilities. Gyms, E4 and Champion should follow the same rule.

I would agree except not allowing a free switch fucks with exp gains and results in wasted potion turns and/or trips to the pokecenter. It’s more tedious than difficult outside of competitive/battle facilities where you get healed after every battle and there’s no exp gain.

During my playthrough this is what frustrated me the most. This is strictly bad game design and a petty hotfix to try and make his easy game harder.

Other "highlights" this game had was adding artificial progress gates to remove FRLG's open exploration and forces you to do gyms in their intended order. Also making Safari Zone an arguably worse RNG clown fiesta than the original games, despite ALL the other QoL fixes the game has, which could leave you grinding for hours even on 20x speed to catch a specific Pokemon.

Its clear that the hack was thrown together quickly by someone that got access to a bunch of fancy tools but zero game design skills.

Safari Zone didn't receive any of the QoL updates that made catching good/rare Pokemon easy, and had its encounter table massively expanded to make it as frustratingly hard to encounter a specific mon as possible. The entire hack is supposed to be designed around making catching and training as easy as possible so you can focus on team strategy, and instead this spits in the face of all that, requiring you to get absurdly lucky to catch any of the safari zones 1% low catch rate encounters. It screams that the game was completely untested, and the creator probably never tried to actually catch those mons without savestates. Reminder that even Chansey has a 4% encounter rate normally.

The only changes they made that ill accept are golduck, grapploct, electivire, and sorta luxray. They get the typing they actually should have gotten. Everything else is just stupid changes to be different or cool.

There's a huge difference between deviantart-tier self-inserts and having the characters named after someone but still using the game's assets. The one's from Gen II also have random teams, like every other NPC on the facility.

It's different from Cockslayer's romhack. As soon as you see them, you now they are donut steel characters.

Apparently 1.3 will have Sevii Islands and Gen 3+ Pokemon with Cross Gen evos. They don't have any intention of adding fairy type in the game.

Also it'll be released this year, I'm predicting mid july.

There's nothing wrong with putting yourself/your dev team as enemy trainers in a fangame, it's rather cute honestly and adds a degree of personal touch. They really should just keep it out of main story battles.
Its not bad at all as a postgame hidden boss, easter egg, or just as random trainers you meet on routes.
