Is that Alola anime Misty shooped?
Her hair and the other two faces look like 2D stickers, not the first time I noticed that thing from that season, many screens have very poor mspaint collages for the objects and all.
The scene from the old anime has more depth feel and better shading, clothes don't look like bodypainting either.

Besides the legendaries and the pseudo-legendary, they're all indeed more geometric, simpler and rounder than gen 1 designs?
Compare Ampharos to Khangaskan, Heracross to Pinsir or even Lugia to Zapdos, and you'd definitely notice how different the design direction between the two gens has changed pretty consequently

Don't be a retard, Zapdos is shaped like that to represent lightning bolts. Of course it's pointy, compare it to Articuno, Moltres, Mew and Mewtwo, Zapdos is obvious more pointy than them.
