By referencing the events of the mega evolution special, steven would therefore be implying that both primals were active at once in the past, and team magma/aqua didn't hear of their destructive properties somehow. If that somehow happened, it would mean that ORAS takes place in the same continuity as that of the ashnime, which does not make sense, since ash and pals met steven and he was just some guy, while wallace was the champion (he never had been prior to ORAS). Furthermore, it conflicts directly with the team aqua/magma plot of the advance anime, which is proof enough that it doesn't take place in the same universe. The anime also doesn't take place in the same continuity as that of the BW games (cynthia makes explicit mention of the climax of platinum, which wasn't what happened in the ashnime). The anime also can't take place in the SM/USUM universe since we have the trial captains being trial captains, as well as ash not being the champion in either. And of course it doesn't take place in the same universe as SwSh, RBY, GSC or RSE, the eternatus, team rocket and the magma/aqua events play out differently. The Ashnime is its own continuity, and things such as the cap pikachus and ash-greninja are just universe fuckery that GF didn't put much thought into.
