How do people figure out what cards have high value? I have very old cards I may go through later in my binder back at my parents' house. The news of these old cards selling for absurd prices (in hard economic times no less) is encouraging me to take a look to see what I have.

Look for any first editions and anything holo. Also try any legendary Pokemon, or charizard, or pikachu or anything with "shining" in the name. That should cover most valuable wotc cards.

Ebay is way overpriced for anything cheap
Cards that go for 100 yen or under are often sold at $3 - $7
It's great for most card with value though you'll need to check often to find the best prices

Other than that you can try buying directly from big Japanese card stores through a middleman service
You can get cards like pic related for $7 a piece if you make a big order to cancel out the fees and shipping

If you want to fast sell, figure out the quality of the card. If it's nm/lp, go to troll and toad and average out their sell price and buy price and you sell it at that median price. If the card looks perfect, get it graded. If it's less than lp, go about 15-20% under troll and toad buy price. I did that and got great deals and fast sells

As i've said earlier, I've been lucky to get a good pre-order in. I think I'll try to get the individual secret art-cards and stuff. With VV, people sold alot of great cards for dirt cheap for a couple of days after the set launched. you can't even buy any VV product online in Bongland, and people are selling cards like holo Lugia for like literally £3 $4-5.

the most compelling cards tell some kind of story with their illustration, or they give a glimpse of how pokemon exist in the world, and almost all full art cards are inherently incapable of doing this.

I actually think Rudy is wrong on this myself. He is assuming that their isn't enough demand to out stripe the production and that all these new stores are going to be unsuccessful at flipping Pokemon for 2x. I think the demand actually is there and these stores will be able to at least break even.

Out of the blue, the guy makes a video essentially saying "Full art trainers with girls on them have been slept on, you should totally buy them!". Overnight this made cards like that skyrocket in price, when historically most of them weren't worth much of anything.

The conspiracy theory is that the dude bought up a bunch of them at their cheap price, then made the video to get the prices to increase, there's no telling if that's why he did it, but nevertheless, it's still his fault for shitting up the market.

I've got four of them now, and even the oldest still feels brand new. They're well made.

I keep my entire collection in there including first editions and very valuable cards, but I'm not in this for investing so ymmv. The cards in a penny sleeve and then in the pocket seems very secure imo.

I was recommended to look at DEX protection or Ultimate Guard, I have no doubt that those are the higher quality binders but it seems like no one in Canada wants to carry 9 pocket binders from those two brands at a reasonable price. I also wanted to know if the Ultra Pro Premium Pro Binder does protect your cards well because I would be storing my complete or near complete sets like Hidden Fates, Vivid Voltage, >evolutions, HGSS base set, EX Crystal Guardians as well as other cards not from those sets that currently don't have a toploader. There are a different variety of cards in those sets that both mean a lot to me and that are also expensive so I don't want to get a shitty binder for them.

How do you guys organize your sets? I have base/fossil/jungle/rocket pretty much finished (just upgrading some lower condition ones) but don't find the set order visually appealing, too top heavy imo. always used to have evolution lines next to do each other. But then sometimes you have a fossil dragonite with a base dratini and dragonair for example. what do?

Binders for each set with the best copy I have of each individual card, with the extras stored in card boxes (rares and 1st editions sleeved, holos in an extra binder). Organized by set and then set order.

Trying to come up with a custom order for your collection is going to be a pain, because it will never feel "right". You'll always find a reason to redo it. Just go with the numbers.

Guys I think I did pretty well, I could pick cards from these sets and few more for 10 cents each, I bought like 300-400 cards since I have not experienced the older cards as I quit collecting and whatever around 2002 and started again 2014 or so.

What do you think? I think the Ho-Oh holo energy is like 20 bucks already lmfao. (depending on the condition ofc.)
