These aren't gimmicks. They're just natural extensions of things that were already established. Of the actual gimmicks you listed dynamax is the best, followed by z-moves, while megashit is a distant third.

We didn't start getting flashy new gimmicks for gimmicks' sake until they started tying them to a region knowing that they won't bring them to any other games.

You guys are even worse than Unovabortions. Grow up, zoomers. If you're going to say something isn't a gimmick at least do Dynamax or Z-Moves because they work for everything.

They are. Everyone agrees cross-gen evos were the start of the stupid battle gimmicks, and mega evolutions were even worse because they just expanded on that.
Luckily Z-Moves turned out much better and Dynamax expanded on them in the same manner.

Pretty convenient how the last gen to do cross-gen evos and megas sold like shit. You know, there's a reason SM got rid of both of those things, children. GameFreak realized they didn't need shitty gimmicks after blunders like Sylveon and Mega Kangaskhan.

They really think that shit is good. Gen 8 already struck a good middle ground anyway since giving regional variants evos is a less gimmicky way of doing cross-gen evos and Gigantamax is the same thing as megas but better.

If I had to call it a gimmick, though, I'd have to say it's a damn good one. Some single or two stage Pokemon got boned so hard and look so incomplete and weak. Cross-gen evos are just what they needed and I hope we get more in the future.

Creative designs and lower stat totals make for pokes that can be justified in accessing earlier, some of them failed in that by just making a baby out of a crappy poke though.

Neat actions for the unique z-moves, generic z-moves are nice enough. However it results in being really obnoxious to see for every meta battle.

Gigantamax is sometimes cool looking, but sometimes pretty lame. Dynamx is just lame. I never saw any unique gigantamax moves so I dunno how creative they can get.

No, because there's no breeding in Kanto. The only way you can catch a Pikachu is to catch a grown one already in the wild so why would people know about Pichu?

Are you new? It's called retcon, sweaty, and almost every form of serialized media uses it at least once. The trannime even uses retcon to write in Pikachu's story from its time as a Pichu. I mean sure, you could argue that it was poorly implemented in this case, but sometimes it's a necessary evil. Shit happens, new ideas for origin stories come up, plotholes need patching, etc.

Pikachu didn’t have an origin beyond Oak catching him. It was perfectly fine to write in Pikachu as a Pichu because it was establishing his backstory. Was it a weird choice? Yes. Is it a retcon? No.
