You may not like BW but it still followed the same design philosophies for gameplay that most of Gens 1-6 did.

Pffft what? When did Gen 6 get included in the pile of classic games now? I don't care if it's the last game with a national dex or what not, it was one of the most casualised games in the series and it gave way to the trend in later games in full force, which makes it as far away from the classics as possible

Yeah, it's just a shame that SM and SWSH ended up being peak speculation over delivering.

The only real flaw XY had were technical issues and the casualization. These are easily fixable issue sthat would have been addressed in Z but we got robbed of that experience. ORAS onwards were when pokemon games became flawed at its core
