Gen 9 games are Australia based: Slumber and Awakening. Starters are Grass/Fire/Water or Grass/Ground/Poison. Trainers choose new or traditional types whether they are “early” or “late" based on what time of day a player starts the game.

Daytime: Foalic (cart horse), Dokangoroo (boxer kangaroo), Snapiat (two-headed photographer snake).

Nighttime: Acryloc (painter crocodile), Folember (centaur), Zumikang (dancing kangaroo). Snapiat and Acryloc resemble Poipole.

Trainers can play two ways (or both) - as a Pokemon trainer who challenges gyms, or by completing side quests (in Wild Areas) that unlock new locations and towns.

Berry farming introduces Berry Might Juice. They introduce Teraformes, that turn Pokemon into colossal geographic structures. These forms change terrain, weather and stats.

Looker and Nanu join forces to solve an international mystery about two trainers who “share a dream.”

Depending on the time of day: The two trainers are younger/older. Looker and Nanu arrest a different evil team leader.

Depending on the choice of a player’s starter Pokemon: The rival is friendly, a villain, or a bully

Daytime starter chosen: A shy boy is friends with a gray Pokemon. The Pokemon looks like a ghost-type Clefairy doll. The girl races a regional variant Rhyhorn with racing number is 001. They both witness the theft of a starter Pokemon. It gives them nightmares.

Nighttime starter chosen: A young woman on a cruise meets a man repairing a car on the docks. He is a Rotom Racer. She races a Rotom motorbike. They both witness the theft of a Pokemon fossil.

A tutorial can be downloaded before game release that features special Teraformes of Sinnoh starters given by Professor Rowan. Rowan meets up with Looker during the day or Nanu if the player during the night. He warns them of Teraformes of Darkrai and Cresselia.

Experience share returns. Less experience is earned at night.
