I honestly believe Rose's shitty plot was a form of writer revolt ala the kind of shit that turned up in games like Metal Gear Survive done in such a way as to make fun of the people who were forcing them to rush the game by having the bad guy be a dumbass executive who's rushing the solution to a problem that doesn't exist just so he can have the money and glory only to fuck everything up.

Keep in mind that even other characters in the game call Rose a fucking moron and question why the hell he'd do such a thing. Game Freak at the bare minimum was clearly aware it was a stupid plan with no good justification for Rose's behalf, otherwise they wouldn't point it out themselves.

I remember seeing leons awful design and hoping he'd be redeemed as a villain with how much the game sucks his dick. Like they could've made the big twist rose and leon are rigging league matches to maintain his perfect record of never losing and hop has to come to terms with his brother being a fraud, meaning he gets actual character development aside from being a coping loser

Those were way too predictable to qualify as good writing. That being said, what they actually did wasn't good either plotwise. My point though is that it took balls to actually make him undefeated without chickening out and chalking it up to a predictable fishy business. And then they went the extra mile to make his master undefeated as well for over a decade and his rival champion-worthy for other regions. Really puts a forward line in the sand for Galar battle strength.

I kind of figured they were trying to make a game where the villain wasn't really a villain and it all fell apart in the last hour since Rose's plot is just too retarded for anyone to side with him. Rose isn't technically evil. He's an egotistical futurist that ignores the advice of his friends and peers to put his own goals first because he thinks it's what is right. Not too dissimilar from someone like Tony Stark, who I'm pretty sure Rose was directly inspired by. This probably would have worked better if Galar was in the middle of an energy crisis instead of one being 1000 years away. The player would have been able to sympathize with Rose if there was no time to wait, and Leon was being selfish he wanted to battle the player right away.

True. Many of Rose's actions make little sense. Since he was keeping Eternatus a secret until he planned to trigger the Darkest Day why would he help Sonia on her research of uncovering secrets about it by letting her have access to the Hammerlocke vault? Both the manga and anime changed this part, in fact the anime even has his employees try to stop Sonia at all costs. And him announcing his plan over the big screen of the championship match was just dumb since he outed that he purposely caused the mess, when he could've just kept quiet or at least not admit to having done it himself publicly. And how he banked on Leon, a solo trainer as stopping a legendary class Pokemon all by himself when by that point it was revealed via Sonia's research that the original was stopped by two people and two Pokemon. He at least turned himself in at the end, but then CT further humiliates him by revealing Regieleki was really the answer to his problem the whole time in its Pokedex entry by revealing it could provide all of Galar energy by itself.

The Wild Area raid dens get a ton of extra watts after Eternatus is released. It's talking about dynamax energy, not electricity. Galar's whole battle culture is centered around dynamaxing and Rose realized it was slowly fading, so he came up with the only known way to get more dynamax energy, which was to awaken Eternatus. But making that point clearer and it happening way before a 1,000 years in the future would've improved the story majorly.

The monument was not discovered til after the situation had blown over. By the time Bede and Rose left the wall was still merely cracked. And Rose was getting wishing stars for the future of Galar, everything he did was for Galar, Bede blatant disrespect for a monument of the country is precisely why Rose got mad at him.

And Leon being there or not is irrelevant, because Leon failed anyway and you failed too anyway, it is clear Eternatus was more powerful than literally everyone except the dogs and were it not for you and Hop remembering the forest during the crisis everyone would've failed.

The weird thing is that the game implies Oleana set Bede up, since she asked to speak to him privately in Hammerlocke just before this. I have to wonder if yandere Oleana was originally intended to be the real villain of the main story and then they backed out last minute and had to switch it to hamfisting Rose as the bad guy instead.

Game Rose feels like the writers couldn't agree if they wanted him evil or not. He seemed genuinely disapppointed in Bede yet later did something so much worse himself. At least the anime made him consistently more evil and outright told the viewer via Magnolia that he's crazy.

Manga Rose lent him the Copperajah to find Wishing Stars but apparently Bede bulldozing the ruins with it was all Bede's own doing. In this version Oleana had nothing to do with it.
