Although, I've always had the suspicion that Pokemon like Jynx, Mr. Mime, and objectmons such as Magnemite were introduced earlier on to establish the fact that Pokemon are monsters first and foremost that can be or look like just about anything (within reason). Those first few Gen 1 weirdmons weren't enough, though, so the idea just goes right over our heads whenever debates about controversial designs like Vanillite, Sawk, or Polteageist come up. Like, we literally forget Gen 1 weirdmons exist lol
