Also I don't know what's confusing about eating to live versus living to eat. A person who eats only to live is content in the things they have while a person who lives to eat is always looking for more than what they have. You're not a Chad if you eat to live, you're a Chad of you're not only confident but have the skill and power to back up that confidence. Canonically Leon has never lost. He'd earned all of his accolades. Even when you take his job and reduce him to a no name rando he's entirely magnanimous about it and just takes the opportunity to improve himself and start challenging you as a normal pokemon trainer. The only reason why he'll never reach his goal is because you are a player character and he is an NPC designed to be beaten.

And you're being extremely reductive towards a game that doesn't even give you a lot to work with anyway. It's a pokemon game, everything is surface level. Leon isn't a bad person, he's confident, skilled, and when he loses for the first time he takes it in stride. There's not a lot to read into here

because all people talk about how strong he is but we never actually get to see it. him fighting the rampaging dynamax pokemon, and his fight with eternatus are both done offscreen. the champion is supposed to be the strongest trainer in the region, we all know that. we don't need everyone constantly reminding us. then when you actually get to fight leon yourself he isn't really that big of a deal. they hyped leon up to a point where he would never be able to live up to it.

I'm curious what Leon was supposed to be. If he had a stacked OU HO team of perfect IV Pokemon scaled to always be 5 levels ahead of you would that have been satisfying. Don't get me wrong SwSh sucks. It really fucking sucks and is a waste of time. But some of the reasoning i see here makes me wonder what exactly some of you guys are looking for.

all he had to be was like any other champion. we didn't need the constant dick sucking. when the dynamax pokemon were rampaging instead of just having leon beat them off screen there should have been a raid battle where you fight alongside him and get a glimpse at how strong his pokemon are. seeing him have a level 65 pokemon while you're only just breaking into the 50s would show his strength far better than having every npc tell me how strong he is.

The Dynamax idea you had is a good one however context is key regarding the way the narrative treats Leon. The gym challenge is way, WAY bigger in Galar than in other regions. Everywhere else the gyms are mostly private, the only people going in or out are the challengers and the trainers within them. The gym leaders themselves are public servants like how Brock helps with excavation efforts in Mt Moon or how Wattson oversees the power plant in Mauville. In Galar every city is built around a Dynamax point and a Gym with only 2 exceptions. These people are celebrities and Leon is the biggest celebrity of all. Of course anyone who's played more than 1 of these games know he's just a bowling pin to be knocked down later but him being touted as unbeatable seems to fit in this particular game. Versus Champions like Cynthia and Steven who are incognito when they're not actively fighting.

But we did need the "dick sucking" because the entire thematic of the game is that trainers are sports celebrities. That is all there is to it. It's not just Leon that gets dick-sucked more than any past trainer, it everyone in Galar, because it's just part of the scenario's setting and flavor.

It all makes sense now, the darkest day shit was to make sure Leon could beat you.
Rose had originally selected Bede to "take the fall", but then he noticed we were outdoing his candidate. He knew we(the player) could not be bribed after meeting with us, thus he made up an energy crisis excuse to bait Leon into catching Eternatus. If the champion had that pokemon, the player stood no chance to win. That's why he made such a big deal about it being done as soon as possible despite his claim that it was 1000 years away. When Leon refused however, stating that he would do it after the final match, Rose was in trouble, with no other options, he unleashed Eternatus to upset the tournament hoping to get it cancelled. Once the player caught Eternatus, Rose accepted it was all over, so he gave himself up, but stuck to his lie so the courts would go easy on him.
Rose was smart all along, well... less stupid.

You're giving the narrative too much credit. Rose says earlier that anything he thinks up he needs to solve immediately. It just so happened that he wheel spun onto "world energy shortage" and he was just too autistic to wait a day. Why does battling good make you an expert on energy production, was there no one else Rose could call?

the biggest celebrities also get the most haters. if we saw more people shit talking about leon then it wouldn't have come off as so fake. it didn't feel like people of the region loved leon and it felt more like i was being told i should love leon. add a raihan fan npc in that thinks leon must be cheating to keep his streak and it would feel more real to me.

my biggest problem is less leon and more how the story was told. leon needed to display his strength throughout the campaign instead of the story just telling the player he is strong. they over hyped him to a point where no matter how tough his battle was it would never live up to the image they had beaten into your head for the last 20 hours.

This is an issue with Pokemon's writing as a whole, everyone in Pokemon is unanimously positive at all times unless they're explicitly evil or a rival that needs to be humbled. It's like how everyone treats Pokemon as the most exciting and interesting thing to have ever happened to them even though Pokemon is a ubiquitous to their world as dogs are for ours. You'd think some would consider some Pokemon as vermin or cattle or just general irritants like pigeons but no everyone everywhere loves Pokemon except for Team Rocket. So you're right in that it's not really a Leon thing, it's a Game Freak needs an actual writer and world builder thing.
