Seriously, Gen 6 gives you Kanto starters, Gen 7 has Kanto only alt forms, and Gen 8 has a Kanto remake with the new games sucking off Charizard and more Kanto only (plus a pity Gen 5) G-Max forms. Kantoooo pandering actively makes the series worse and is targeting a demographic of people who don't even play the games anymore.

It does actually due to a little thing called context. Something like XY shoving the kanto starters earlygame with their own starter Pokemon sequence and leading into them being one of the few Pokemon with the power to mega evolve is way different than something like Gen 5 where the kanto starters were available in dream world.
Nobody called the latter kanto pandering (which is especially notable given they criticized BW for different kanto pandering).

I feel like in more recently the Lucario and Greninja pandering has eased off, Lucario's more recent appearances just strike me as GF treating it more like a regular Pokemon again and Greninja basically has Jigglypuff status in Smash and that's kinda it now. Eevee getting pandered to kinda sucks cause the pandering seems to just completely ignore the Eeveelutions, which is the appeal of Eevee.

Meowth's pandering is probably the most annoying of those listed in that poll, especially given Alolan Meowth, Galarian Meowth & G-Max Meowth.

It's the most popular one that works well as a general gym. The top 3 most memorable Kanto gyms are Sabrina, Blaine, and Surge. Blaine is just a quiz that lets you avoid every battle so that is not gonna get in. In Sabrina's, there are too many walls and there is a way to skip every fight. Surge has at least one required fight, and it helps that his gym is relatively open. Also, the trash cans were a mainstream icon, giving it a boost.

That's because unlike other starters, the Kanto starters are the only ones who have been easily available as a second set of starters after you already get your original starter in XY, on top of that, they all had Mega Evolutions while the Gen 6 starters got nothing (till A-Greninja in Gen 7).
That, by definition, is Kanto pandering because it's putting Kanto back in the spotlight at the expense of the other starters that debuted that generation, this is also why Leon's Charizard being the star of SWSH is a problem.

Gen 5 broke Masuda. You could tell from his blog how much he put into it and how much it meant to him, and the massive WHERES MUH BROS? backlash to only having new Pokemon prior to the league just made him lose all faith in himself, realizing a massive portion of the fandom don't give a shit about anything other than playing with the same old mons over and over, and will be happy as long as the games have all the worst shillmons in them. It wasn't gen 5 that broke him. It only set in the seed for his destruction. It was gen 6. He gets shit on for only having new pokemon in BW, so he makes the largest regional dex in a base game to date. Charizard got two Mega Evolutions, a G-Max form before the other two Kanto starters, it's gifted by Leon, it gets tons of super rare and powerful cards, Ash's Charizard was basically his ace and was way more powerful than Pikachu, and Alain's Charizard was a beast beating Ash's Pikachu and Greninja, and Red's Charizard in Origins Mega Evolved in the fight with Mewtwo.

Only faggots hate Pikachu. The amount of merchandise Mimikyu gets is really ridiculous. It's basically the new Pikachu. All the attention they give Mimikyu really goes against the premise of the Pokémon. It dresses like Pikachu because it's so unloved, but even then it's still implied to be undesirable because it's found in the abandoned store in Alola.
