>>46019236Cross-gen evolutions are always fun. I've always thought those were cool ways to keep older pokemon relevant. The designs need to be top notch though, as you're basically replacing the old pokemon. Why would anyone stop at Rhydon, when you could evolve a Rhyperior?
Regional forms are dumb, as they just over complicate the dex, when you could just give them a new name, and have a new pokemon. Just put in the pokedex it's a regional variant, so people know, but the out right replacing of pokemon is annoying. 3 Meowth's? Really? Couldn't have made one of those a new pokemon?
Megas were great, as they never outright replaced previous pokemon like cross-gen evolutions, and they gave weaker pokemon a chance to shine. I was a huge fan and thought it could've been the next step for pokemon. But I guess Z-moves were easier...
What you could do to make older pokemon more relevant is simply update some of their stats, given them more unique moves, and maybe a mega for fan favorites.
But honestly, the easiest way, would be to just update the animations. Right now, they're just static and the colors are washed out. Simply giving them more movement would alone make them feel more 'real.' There were tons of Gen 1 Pokemon I didn't really care for in sprite form, but seeing them move in Stadium really spiced them up.
