Check the back corners for whitening
If ANY of those are there in more than even just one or two instances, you're card will be an 8.5 or less and you're basically wasting your time grading.
Go to trollandtoad and look up your card. On their site, when you pull up the card you're looking for, there will be a buy it price and a sell to price. As long as your card is in respectable condition (not much worse than the parameters I have for the 8.5), average the two prices on that site and that value will guarantee you a quick sell at a fair value.
From those parameters, you can begin to judge what conditions and values your cards have, and how you want to sell them (slow and patient for potential higher gain or fast and actue for average or slightly under average gain).
For protecting the cards, penny sleeves and a top loader is fine. For shipping, figure out the weight and size of what you'll ship and attempt to factor that into the pricing. There's gonna be some trial and error, but it's only daunting and not actually challenging. You'll figure it out.
