How come anyone is allowed to go catch Pokémon?
Isn't that too unrealistic?
Their government should keep a tight control on Pokémon capture and usage, considering their potential use as WMD.

you think you are actually beating anything, that's all a test, a right of passage for children to prove they are worthy of training pokemon.

I made a little nuzlocke story once where concealed carry was illegal in some regions, and you had to have a proper license to buy pokeballs at all, and it was well received by my readers. I think it's an interesting concept to explore, because I do think the league would realistically control who can carry pokeballs.

Pokemon are not well understood so when you go out to be a trainer you are also gathering information on Pokemon which helps scientists. Everything in your PokeDex is gathered and sent back to the researcher who gave it to you or whoever. Basically if scientists have people out gathering data for free it's a good deal for them. Pokemon research is also probably funded by governments. It is the same thing as how the government would fund sailing expeditions to other lands or the poles. Once they are better understood they probably will be regulated.

There has been mention of adults but it is also mentioned that primarily children at some time after 10, take on the challenge, they just don't always make it to the end.

There’s probably a region where only nobility and their relatives are allowed to have Pokémon. A European style feudalism with Pokémon sounds like it’d be a fun story, now that I think about it.
