In regards to the roaming doges

It's easiest to just disregard them for sure, but I'll always maintain that it's okay to chase after them and try to catch them if they are genuinely the first encounter on any particular route and you hadn't encountered them sometime beforehand.

Just finished the eight gym, and my team is undergoing construction now that it's Victory Road time. I've officially swapped out Cuttle the Armaldo for Jean the Sealeo in preparation for the E4, of whom Armaldo has NO type advantages. And Missy the Grumpige, in a similar state, is being benched in favor of a new friend, whom I'm EV training right now. Penultimate update will come once I finish my Victory Road grind.

Most progress I've ever made in Black 2! Lost my starter super early on, but since then I've only had one loss and not too many scary moments, just beat Clay. Patches the Krokorok has Moxie so I'm trying really hard to keep her alive.

I'm not sure you people actually beat the games where you take on those extreme restrictions. I've been lurking here for a hot min and I'm pretty sure that most of you wipe before you even sniff the champion. For me I don't want it to be literally impossible, just difficult enough to have the RISK of failure be serious. If you were in the last thread you'd see I got DEVESTATED by Lance and I had a dynamic level cap around the average AND I was using healing items.
This run (and I understand platinum to be more difficult as well so) I have tweaked the level cap to be the ACE rather than the Average. I am still experimenting and NONE of the ChadLock LAWR has been codified yet (notice in the OP i refer to them as 'Rules' not LAWR)
regardless over time I will continue to test slight variations on the rules, and of course none of it means jack shit without the community interest, but I think we can all agree that a STANDARD and SUPERIOR NugLock experience is needed

You should use mGBA, last time I checked VBA doesn't even support multi-threaded processors (only complaint with mGBA is it has a permanent menu bar which I find ugly)
Even if you want to go back to VBA you can just use mGBA to do the trade

agree on? people consider starters/gifts/statics separately all the time, particularly starters, its very common. i personally do this (with some exception) because i like variety and finding "difficulty" in other ways, namely just doing hardcore runs of romhacks.

nuzlocking is literally just a way to make playing pokemon more interesting. You can do that, however, the fuck you want. Wanna use rare candies as legal revives? Sure. Wanna use no items in combat? Sure. Wanna play through an entire game just with normal/flying pokemon knowing tackle? Why tf not.

On the other hand, there's working fairy type, you gen 99x of each TM (to emulate reusable TMs), you have access to almost every item and pokemon before E4 with shitload being available even before the first gym.

Anyways had a VERY good start to my Platinum run (after loosing my last one at the first battle kek)
Seems like my luck was near perfect, missed an Abra on the route east of Jubilife but I can forgive that desu because my team is fucking STACKED
When I wake back up I'll be grinding a bit more before I fight Roark (rock? wtf is that guys name?)
Not expecting much of a problem as I've got Tux the Piplup and Seamus (that's the golduck!) to easily take him out.
Also check out the fucking Ponyta Phoebus! The ONE fucking fire type in the whole game and I already nabbed him...I typically don't respect RapidAss much but considering the game I am fucking BLESSED to have him (which is why he got named after a fucking god lol)

Like I said last thread, I used one in Emerald (casually mind you) and jesus, you're on the money about it. It can just blow through the game like nobody's business. Water/Flying/Ice/Electric (if you can fit it) coverage is stupid good for Hoenn and the fact you get it so early is even moreso.

Never got this meme. Dupes Clause is one of the only rules that makes the game easier. Even with a hard cap at 3 and forcing it it'll still honestly be easier than not having Dupes Clause on at all. There are very few Pokemon that I'd actually want dupes of and most only appear in one route

Well I beat Roxanne. Mushi leveled up once on the gym trainers and twice on her fight. I beat one Geodude with Blugul which was a bit risky I know, but it was a one shot with water gun. Mushi beat the rest. Nosepass is really tanky and dangerous. Actually took Mushi to 1 HP on her last attack pretty crazy.
Things are going well I think. On my Leaf Green run throughs I always lost someone before the first gym haha. Don't have a solid plan for Brawly desu.

I didn't realize it was considered the same route. In Leaf Green you get the starter in Pallet Town. Frankly it doesn't bother me Beautifly isn't an amazing Pokemon, but it might be importand for Brawley. I don't think it's a big deal.

In my opinion BOTH represent the same level of challenge (having ONE mon 3 levels ahead of the ACE does not mean shit if he can't sweep the whole team. Honestly almost dropped the run when I lost two back-to-back in Union Cave.
Lost Smoochum IMMEDIATELY after posting about how useful Forewarn was, to a random Force Palm out of a fucking Pineco of all things. Then when I pulled in my Grimer (Steel/Fighting with Dry Skin) to replace it, it got Fire Spinned (Fire Span? Fire Spun?) in it's first battle and died too.

BUT now I've found this absolutely based Heracross, things are finally looking up. I got a Spore TM too, not sure if I should throw it on something right away, and drop this shitty Machop (Spore is the only reason it's useful atm) or hold onto it until later.

You didn't read the Misc restriction
You are not allowed to use healing items twice in a row during battle AND with SET battle requirements that effectively stops you from being able to abuse Hyper Potion Spam.
I should add another rule that says no more than 10 of any item can be carried at any time but these rules aren't really set in stone, they're still developing.
I think to do without items at all is rather silly, unless you're going to OHKO every pokemon on their team you're likely going to find yourself in a number of situations where you can either use a potion, or risk loosing your Mon to a random crit. Again leaving the option for potion use just gives MOAR options to the trainer and makes the result (victory or defeat) MORE in the hands of the player.
I welcome a vigorous debate about the intricacies and LAWR specifics of ChadLock and look forward to your argument on WHY items ought be banned all together

you don't need to ohko everything, it's a pokemon game, you can stall, setup, pivot, chip, calc resists, you really don't need items and they make some risky strategies really simple, such as setupmons not needing any sort of recovery move or a plan B since you can straight up just do it in the face of whatever and heal it up every other turn for instance, toxstalling is also piss easy if your pokemon doesn't die in one hit since you can straight up abuse protect for that downtime

If I were to MonoLock a ChadLock I would either make it MOAR restricitve and say that all other rules stand BUT in addition

Though I think the carry limit is a bit extreme, if you're underlevelled you end up just bunny hopping your mons around trying to heal up but at the end either you got it or you don't. Potion spam is only a problem because the enemy runs out of PP on it's good attacks.

I feel that's enough to effectively limit the player's ability to spam heal to win, you pointed out the toxic spam approach but I'm still convinced this would not make that a viable strategy. Like I pointed out above as long as Battle syle is SET then you're stuck bouncin mons in and loosing a turn every time, the enemy will continue to hit you the whole time AND if you're following the other rules then none of your Mons will be over levvled and more than likely some of them will die if you have to constantly bounce them in and out (max 10 turns as well due to the healing item limit which btw 10 is excessive everywhere except the E4 so maybe it should be 5 for the gyms and 20 for the entire e4 but again the fine line should be hamered out somewhere in the middle not just a haphazard blanket ban on healing all together!)

Any other opinions? Would coming back be cringe? I almost think it SHOULD be allowed and that an exception OUGHT be specified in the LAWR. Maybe just a definition of a 'wild encounter' that excludes these battles

So! I've decided to do a Heartgold run, but with some tiny twists. I'm using the 'force evolution' feature at around Lv. 30 so everything will DEFINITELY be fully evolved, at least for trainers. I also selected the percent level modifier to be increased by 10%. Should I increase it more, or is 10% good enough as is? Or is it too much?

As for the level increase I'm not sure it's really worth it. HGSS runs are fucking grind city bro, you literally spend so much fuckingtime grinding in that games it's not even funny. I spent 60 hours last week playing up to Lance (where his Gyrados FUCKED me with ice fang crit)

I'm mad as hell. Found the most BASED Poliwag possible, Dragon type, has Dragon Dance/Moonlight/Double Edge/Dragon Claw, AND I lucked out on finding a Water Stone on one of my other catches.
But I forgot that Poliwrath has a split-evo, so it changes type on evolution. Now it's this Normal/Ice shit. Still has a based movepool but all it's gonna take is a Mach Punch outta nowhere to take him down.

Still, the rest of the squad is looking good. Dark/Poison is a great typing, Rian has Water Absorb, and now that I'm getting evolutions in the huge difficulty spike at Whitney should level out a bit.

Meds finally was able to evolve again, had a close call against where he almost died to sludge from a Weezing plus poison on top of that.

I started a Soul Silver nuzlocke last night, my last attempt ended at the kimono girls last year. I'm feeling way more confident with this one. Don't rush it. While the games are amazing casually, they are probably the worst in the franchise when it comes to grinding. Pokemon levels are super low. Trainers after Morty are also lows because the game allows you to challenge Pryce, Jasmine, Chuck in any order so to compensate, everyone had to be around the same level.
The worst offender though is Voltorb flip if you need one of the super good moves. That shit will break your soul.

By choice. The original concept makes the Starter the King, but I decided to change that a bit.
Of course, you could use an RNG to randomly decide the role. The original version only has 6 roles rather than the 8 on mine, so you could use a regular dice.

I forgot to update my progress yesterday but all I can say is there was a single death on the way from lumiose city to cyllage town

Grant's Tyrunt is a fucking beast
that motherfucker was flinching everything in sight, Betty died to it sadly, but Gregory and Sharptooth were able to pull through with a yawn and charm combo and then little by little hitting it until it died

When I used nincada once I kept them both and actually used them both in the elite four. It was really fucking cheap but I passed evasion, attack and speed to swampert/shedinja and just wrecked shit.

Increased difficulty plays a big part in it for me, but I do enjoy the aspect of being forced to use pokemon I never would've beforehand. Like right now, I'm doing VW2, and Volcarona is one of my favorite gen 5 mons and it's a always an option as your relic castle encounter. And sometimes you don't always get lucky with encounters so you have to come up with plans you'd never need in a casual run.
Like for Clay, I did get super lucky and got a Ducklett, so I could remove the sandstorm he sets up with Hippowdon. But his Hippowdon knew Thunder Fang, and I didn't just want Swanna to did after setting up rain. So I used a Reuniclus with charm/reflect/recover, leftovers, and magic guard to cripple the Hippowdon's atk, which then allowed me to keep Swanna alive while setting up rain.
I'd never have to think like that on a casual run. In fact most times, I'm lucky if I even have more than 1 non attacking move. But if you can't adapt with unorthodox plays in Nuzlockes, then you won't beat them, and I like that aspect of it.

Just wiped in my Black 2 Nuzlocke. Beat the 7th gym with this team and then got destroyed by Zillion with his shitty team of two Cryogonal and a Weavile. Skarmory, Starmie and Cofagrigus were all frozen and Stoutland died to a crit.

I think I'll probably give up on this for now, this was really disheartening.

haunter also has 15 DV in attack so shadow ball hits pretty hard. elemental punches upon evo will be very good.

Well! I beat Brawly Blugul was much weaker than I thought it would be. Got one shot by his Makuhita after 3 Bulk Ups. Thought Wing Attack would kill it by then, Wumble saved the day! much more useful than I thought it would be so far.
Sad Blugul died, but what can you do. I think Makuhita was the worst option from the cave to get. Would have preffered Abra Zubat Geodude or Aron. Oh well!

Chuck and Jasmine down. I got lucky and got a call from Gina, so I was able to get a leaf stone for Omelette. Caiju and Muscle also evolved.
Chuck fight was surprisingly easy, even though Omelette hadn't evolved at the time. It was probably unnecessarily risky but I led with with Muncher and was able to set up some calm minds before sweeping his team. Jasmine gave me more trouble cause she almost killed Muscle with her Magnemite of all things.

Just beat Bugsy and Silver. Apollo destroyed the gym and Cotton went toe to toe against Silver's Bayleef. It boiled down to poisonpowder + synthesis vs poisonpowder + synthesis. Thankfully there were no Razor Leaf crits.

Because their rule sets are actually hard. The whole point is that it shouldn't be free. If you're current rule set allows you to win way more than you lose, then it's imbalanced in your favor. Also, let's be real, a level cap is mostly hindering when it comes to evos and level up moves. By the time your teams in the 40s, you're just padding stats by having a higher level.
The use of healing items is so busted because it allows you to use set up moves with little risk. If your pokemon dies in 3 hits to an opponent's, you set up turns 1 & 2, heal turn 3, and congrats, now you can sweep and not be in danger of dying should the opponent survive a hit.
There's more I'd say on your stance of looking down on rom hacks, especially ones like Dray's which only really make the games more diverse and challenging, but I don't have to leave and will touch on it later. I'm sure you'll still be here.

Zigzagoon is actually pretty okay. His stats are fairly respectable, he is a normal type which is honestly good, and he has a useful ability. I got two nuggets from pickup in my last emerald run.
Whismur on the other hand is TRASH. Evolves way too late, moveset is limited outside of really expensive/rare TMs. It is trash at this point in the game.
Switch out beautifly for tentacool desu, he's the best one. Magikarp is boring to grind to 20, but for tentacool at least you get a pretty strong check to Flannery by level 25 with bubblebeam.
Protip: team tentacool secret power before bubbleteam so you have a decent attack to train.

Last run I hit the e4 with a level cap at the Mean and no one over the leader and I got Shreked by Gyrados. Wasn't even close (my team was bad desu) BUT if I had kept my old method of level cap (current chadLockLite rules) then it may have at least been more of an actualy fight. I got ass blasted before he even brought out his first Dragonit and that was WITH NO cap on item usage either.

Quick update: a year may have passed since my last attempt but it seems that old habits die hard. I lost Pita to the trainer in route 35 with a Magmar that had Faint Attack. Last year I lost a Slowpoke to the same trainer. I also had a series of unfortunate events, including, but not limited to:

Team is now looking very different and I have some grinding to do before Whitney. At least I have more girls now, so Attract shouldn't be much of a problem. Getting Vulpix was nice though, it's one of my favorite Fire types.

I have no idea why other people do it, I know I do it because Pokemon give me a nostalgic feeling of comfort and wonder but playing without Nuglock rules was boring because you literally can't loose.
I started with just the standard rules but I found that I was always overlevelling and the gyms were no fun cuz I would just level for 3 hours then sweep them
So I started doing level caps but THAT was not good becaues if you cap to their level like dumb fuck is planning to do in order to 'own the schizo' or whatever then your whole party is OP. SO I switched a dynamic level cap system (which btw I seriously think most of you are opposed to just because you don't understand it. If One pokemon is 3 levels OVER then just make sure One poke is 3 levels UNDER (or one is 1 level under and one is 2 levels under or 3 are one level under etc if you're 75+ iq you know what I mean)
I'm sure that most people don't think like me (again most people are braindead microSHIT cattle, not saying you necessarily are but statistically speaking there's like a 75% chance) and I don't actually care what the retards do, I got mine as the black keys say

no FRLG are all around improvements.
RBY is only fun if you played them as a kind and don't like FRLG cuz they feel like zoomer shit to you (I on the other hand played FR as a child and so THAT is my comfy zone)

There is no perfect Pokemon challenge, literally everybody has a different idea of what's fun

The basic Nuzlocke rules work as a solid basis because they're the absolute simplest way to add an actual loss condition to Pokemon - by turning Pokemon into a finite resource that can run out.
Everything past that is personal preference.

I will go in as blind as possible (I've beaten all except Moon) and not use any items in battle. If Y/Moon I will not be using the exp share at all.
I left my silver cart at home, but I will play silver, not gold if you pick that because I need to complete it to finish my Johto pokedex (stupid exclusives).

romhacks are fucking universally cringe. The ONLY ones I can get behind are if they remade one of the newer games in the gen3 engine so it could be played on my phone for free. Any romhack involving fakemons is instacringe and EVERY hacks I've played is CRINGE for one reason or another either retardedly high pokemon out of the blue, or retard tier humor, or ugly as fuck / broken textures not ONE of them is even a quarter of the game Fire Red is.
