While that's true gen 6 hate has always been a really vocal minority. It was never the worst game in the franchise,but not the best. That's why you get so many people lamenting about how Z version not happening. Because they do care about the base game to some degree.

This. It was a perfectly decent game, that also had some of the greatest innovations in the series. Even cynics tend to give XY credit for stuff like the PSS, custom characters, Pokemon models, etc. But GF had gotten folks used to their 3rd Edition that fixes every little issue that XY was sort of like whiplash.

Agreed Gen 6 at its worst is just a very flawed but alright generation but even then it added tones of great things that benefited the series (hell I’d even put it up there with gen 4 and gen 2 as vital points for the series as those three generations made massive steps in improving the gameplay ranging from improvements like gen 2 fixing gen 1s broken ass mechanics to gen 4 introducing the physical special split, and introducing online) and made online more convenient than its ever been and ever will as the festival plaza in is an unintuitive mess and the Y comm makes doing anything with your friends a pain in the dick(and really the stamp system is borderline useless for everything that isn’t a raid) whereas the PSS had everything be set up in an organised manner and battling with friends was literally as easily as clicking their icon and request a battle, plus it also made massive beneficial changes to make competitive easier to get into and you know transition the entire mainline series to 3D.

Most of the hate gen 6 got is really caused by the fact that gen 7 and 8 didn’t really improve upon gen 6s framework at all on a fundamental level beyond just the occasional competitive QOL features and instead gamefreak threw everything out and added even more infuriating problems into the mix that even gen 6 didn’t have to a large extent like the increase in blatant corridor routes, constant gameplay interruptions like excessive dialogue (even gen 6 at least have the player space to do their own thing), blatant roadblocks where the game basically tells you fuck off and follow the path we decided you should go and finally features being cut for no reason even shit that in all sense of the word should be something that should be standard. Bare in mind that doesn’t mean gen 6 doesn’t have flaws in its own right as the main campaign in XY is ludicrously lacklustre and forgettable but thats nowhere near as bad as gen 7 and 8s flaws

Why would gen 6 PSS have a raid option if gen 6 never even had raids to begin with. besides the y comm also far more aggravating issues where you have to use a code to interact with anyone online even your friends whereas the PSS at least has a slot dedicated to your friends and stores the friend there which lets you battle them with a click of a button. Hell the code system was so atrocious in that gamefreak had to change it to an 8 digit system because the combinations of codes in the 4 digit system was so limited that people had issues where they kept connecting with randos. Also let’s be real the stamps in the y comm are functionally useless to everything except raids and all they do is waste space.
