What happened to in-game events like Faraway Island, Navel Rock and Birth Island? Feels like they randomly stopped.

GF stopped doing them because supposedly Japanese kids are actual retards and would never complete the event after obtaining the event item.
One would think they'd just start to include hints of where to go rather than scrapping the idea as a whole, but this is GF we're talking about.

No, they got rid of it because kids couldn't reach Spear Pillar in Sinnoh and with Arceus being located there, that meant they weren't going to hand out the flute for players to miss, because they were too thick to navigate a 3D space effectively.
