Zigzagoon naturally has zig-zag shapes, Linoone can easily get away with having a straight arrow because badgers are naturally striped but having a random perfectly shaped x on Obstagoon's arms, especially when its arms are already conveying the theme by being crossed over each other, is just poor design

This one bothers me just as much I think. The frills on the side are really ugly. They don't look natural and the deadspace on Morpeko's original design was better. It's okay to have deadspace on the silhouette.

The original design's issue is that the green/gray coloring just doesn't mesh well with the yellow coloring. And I think the yellow ring around Boltund's eyes was uncessary or should've been shaped differently.

the artist generally has good ideas it's clear they're just throwing down their ideas, drawing it once and saying "yup that's good because I came up with it" without looking at the overall picture. Which, yeah, that's what happens when you're one artist without a team or any quality control.

Not them but honestly Linoone is best off without one. The progression and contrast between Zigzagoon and Linoone, how all the different little design details come together and mature, already makes for a complete evolutionary line and adding onto it takes away from what makes Linoone such a good evolution for Zigzagoon. I genuinely think it's the one of the single worst Pokemon you could give an evolution to.

You'd be surprised how little people process designs unless theyre actually forced to analyze it. Memory and visual processing are severely flawed. There's also design "theory" which you could argue this design does break a few of those conventions. But Pokemon purposely imbalances designs because they're more genuine that way, even if that's a bad thing half the time.

There’s a bit of funky design going on but it’s by no means a bad design. The patterns and red colouring draw your eye to the head and neck before moving down towards the other details, and the placement of the cross pattern works with that. There’s plenty of space for your eye to rest despite the admittedly overdesigned patterns as well. I really don’t see the problem.
