HMs are kind of fun I think
One of the biggest problems with swsh is that you never had any sense of natural progression. Ride pokemon are a very alternative, for sure, but HMs are a fun way to mage you feel closer to the world and like you're making progress.

Its a bit interesting to plan around ending up with every HM and some other useful moves in your party. It was kinda soul. That said, glad they're gone, it was getting a bit old. I don't really enjoy riding pokemon that much though as a concept, it should've been that you ride your own pokemon and you have to generally have a couple that could realistically do the actions you need. Would be easy to make it pretty broad (more so than arbitrary HM learnsets).
