The real question is what did XY not have that gen 3-5 did.
Then you need to ask yourself the same thing but comparing gens 7 and 8 to 3-6.

Seriously, what DIDN'T XY have?
You can agree that XY were a low-point in classic Pokemon, and still recognize that Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield did the complete opposite of what XY were going for and ended up even worse.

You say this as if it means anything. XY and BW both had perfect IVs and EVs for many of the important characters, with both also limiting them to 3 max Pokemon.
Yet BW are still more difficult. Similarly, SWSH can put as many bells and whistles as it wants on the trainers, it doesn't matter when they're the 2nd easiest games next to XY.

You're right. I'm sure I'll have more fun breeding to do battle facilities in XY than in Emerald. It's just too bad that as breeding QoL has increased, variation in battle facilities has decreased.
Though I think endgame systems can also include a few more towns and routes, which XY doesn't have.

It's hard to tell. I feel pretty strongly that platinum and bw2 have content overall. Pic related is one way of looking at it, but it's obviously not a perfect way since some locations have more content than others.

XY gives you tons of freedom compared to SM and SWSH though, all other factors non-withstanding.
So, no. There are Pokemon games that have a bad singleplayer campaign, and they're the ones that guide you from map marker to map marker with no room to breathe.
