They chose to do both and it was a disaster.

The target demographic for Kanto is adults who have been playing Pokemon for over 20 years. The target demographic for LGPE is small children and casuals who can't be trusted to get frustrated and rage quit.

It makes no sense.

As a result, Genwunners are pissed that the Gen 1 remake they've been waiting 15 years for was a piece of shit, and everyone else is going to have to suffer Kanto pandering because there's no high quality modern Kanto remake to act as a containment for that shit.
