Overheat makes thematic sense because machines can overheat, and magnets in particular lose their magnetism when they overheat, which fits with the Sp.Atk drop.

I think he means because the only reason people use the Magnemite line competitively is for Magnet Pull trap assassination.
However I think with Levitate you could pull off an eviolite Magneton or just a general attacking Magnezone and it would be a lot more viable, not needing to worry about instant death from anything with Earthquake or Earth Power.

Also, I would like to point out that IF Magnezone had Levitate, it would be resistant to nine types, double resistant to two types, and immune to two types. If you built it defensively I think it could be a pretty good wall. Magnezone already has the most resistances of any pokemon in the game as-is.
Only problem is its access to healing is a bit shit.
