In all honesty, dark grass and empty trash cans are nothing compared to the 2 cm high ledges that Alola and Galar are so content with using. The player character makes jumps higher than them off of ledges.
At least the former two were abstracted enough to the point where it makes sense the player can't walk through them.

After beating the elite four and champion with a party of 6 lvl 100 pokemon they'll give you another S.S. Anne ticket and in one of the rooms you can get HM06 which lets you destroy those walls like you would use cut on a tree.

Protip: The grass wasnt even there on the original Pokemon Red and Green, it was added on the third japanese version making its way to the international releases.

Do any of the glitches that allow you to walk through walls, then go south from Varidian City. If you touch the bollards from the wrong side your game will crash, so make sure you avoid the left-most tiles of grass.

The whole grass area is, but for some reason the game doesn't crash if you enter it from the north as long as you don't touch the edge of the actual map.

It technically does exist, because you can place objects with negative coordinates. But the game doesn't know how to handle the player being there.
