comparing the anime to the games is stupid because the games run on math numbers while the anime doesn't.
the fact the games are so easy despite trying too hard to create the illusion that it's hard like "Blue is the strongest trainer in Kanto" and "Leon is the strongest trainer in the world" makes it clear that the gameplay shouldn't be considered the actual events

That's literally what happens in gen VII though. Your Pokémon dodges and endures attacks that would otherwise kill it, recovers from status ailments, and inflicts critical hits depending on its affection level. It's retarded and even further degrades any element of skill.
