Imagine - it's 2021, Pokemon is just memory in heads of nerds and gamers that were kids in late 90s/early 00s. A warmly remembered past not tainted by what we got nowadays. And then Gamefreak, which is now little, practically inactive studio decided to work with fans to create a love letter, an actual refreshed version of Pokemon that would actually build on healthy amounts of nostalgia and build on top of it using modern ideas.
That's what Sonic Mania is, that's what Master Blaster Zero is, that's what SaGa Frontier is. Literally best what could happen for Pokemon could be going dormant after initial hype and become just a happy memory in head of people...
