LGPE does actually have post-game Gym Leader rematches, and it also has a small post-game story that sets up the events of HGSS with Archer.
The game is alright, nothing really spectacular but it was a breath of fresh air going back to the more open-world style Pokemon used to have after Alola's cutscenes and corridors.
All in all the game doesn't have very much more or less depth than SWSH with the DLC. If you take that into account, you can probably convince yourself it's a better value but it really shouldn't be priced above $40 regardless.
You'll definitely get more meaningful playtime out of it. I clocked in about 30 hours during the campaign on LGPE, most of which was actually spent playing the game-- wherein SWSH had me clock in 40 hours but it felt like I was never doing anything the whole time.
Aside from that, it's just what you'd expect. No Battle Tower, just a gauntlet of trainers you have to 1v1 with the non-legendary original 151.
