Why is it, that even after all the years and how inconvenient it is to find older copies of games and hardware, I still see kids playing Gen 6 and below instead or Sun and Moon or SWSH?
Are they just poor?

Anon, I hate to tell you this, but the majority market is still children. You can piss and cry all you want, can make endless threads about how you dont see kids playing the games. And the kids are going to continue to play them, ecause parents dont give as hard of a fuck about your complaints about a kids game and people like you don't get the opportunity to breed, hence you can't apply your values to the new generation.

My zoomer sister started with Alpha Sapphire and other 3ds games. Then I lend her Diamond and it was immediatly her favorite because "the pixel graphics are soo cute~". She did miss amie and trainer customization. I actually got her Platinum, HeartGold, White and Black 2 somehow, and BW 2 is her favorite game. According to her the DS games are better than the 3DS ones and the Switch games are the worst.
