Most of the best PMD starters are trash in mainline games. For example Cubone and Skitty are some of the strongest choices in Rescue Team Deluxe, even before you consider evolution.

The Regis (except for gigas) get Lock-On in GO, which makes them extremely viable in PVP
Registeel in particular was essentially the most centralizing pokemon of Great League for a while, and even after it's moves got nerfed it still manages to be one of Ultra League's biggest threats

Not a mon but fire spin in conquest, it acts like fury swipes etc but in a massive range, only not very effectives and flash fire can consistently survive one of them, if your enemy can't shut down chandelure or infernape next turn they'll easily finish off some not very effectives
