It’s never mentioned who Gordie’s dad and Melony’s husband. Plus, there’s Ash’s mom but his dad is never mentioned

No, literally every Japanese person's got an absent father, because of their work culture. They're drawing off their own childhood experiences with dad being at work all the time and mum the only parental figure they interact with mostly.

are they important to the story? no. ash's dad is never mentioned to have any explicit or important role in ash's drive to be the best. gordie's dad has no role or importance in gordie's desire to be a rock gym leader instead of an ice type leader. so why waste resources fleshing out two characters that don't need to be there? you're asking stupid questions anyone with half a brain could figure out. you probably write fanfiction and introduce a bunch of side characters that claim to be very important but you never bring up again after showing them off once. fall over dick-first into an fire ant nest and die, faggot.

Maybe because going out their way to add extraneous worldbuilding such as giving Melony a hubby would take up too much time during an incredibly rushed development. At least in sword, Gordie's gym was a quick in and out. I'm sure GF would have added more fanfare to their town if they had time- but the same could be said for just about any point in your adventure.

I would have liked to see Gordie's dad, honestly, even just as an NPC or in the concept art with the whole family.

In one of the novelizations it was said that girls usual do the pokemon trainer journey for a bit then return to school/ normal lives while guys are more likely to stay as a trainer long past their childhood even if they aren't successful; of course this is all from gen 1 and an obscure novelization which also claim people are legally adults at 10 in that world so it probably doesn't mean anything.

Yay or nay? It’s basically a proactive version of Bianca's story but I think it’d be a decent twist on a main story. Shit I’d even make it so that after becoming the regional champion your dad finally catches up, and is so pissed that you ditched home without his permission he challenges you with a full team of Pokémon stronger than anything faced before
