>>46111629Despite the fact that there's 3 rivals, they manage to have you battle Hop overwhelmingly more often. SWSH fucked up in so many ways, namely they had almost no substance in the main campaign so they had to pad it out with battles against Hop or others. They could have at the very least brought in a meaningful Team Yell encounter aside from a hallway gym, maybe even give them an Admin, had a couple extra battles with Marnie, or do more with Macro Cosmos other than just a name to vaguely describe the organization supporting Rose. I completely forgot/didn't even notice that they had an actual name until I replayed the game. Throughout the whole game, rather than showing you stuff or having you interact with events, things just happen, develop, or simply exist in the background and you get to hear about it second hand.
The DLC padded it out a little bit but it's still only at the bare minimum.
>>46111687I just replayed Sun and now replaying Ultra Sun, I honestly feel like Lillie interrupting you is extremely overblown at least not until Aether Paradise and after. You're interrupted more in the early game but it's everyone doing it. Lillie can be the most cringe because of how skittish she is but that's the whole point of her arc where symbolically comes of age in the last quarter. It does get way too much in the later part of SM, although USUM goes in a different direction. I remembered all of the cutscene dialogue after becoming the champion in SM but I forgot just how long it takes to actually go through it.
>>46111719This. Lillie does take up pretty much all of the narrative and by the end it's almost implied that while you were playing the adventure, the story was really about Lillie telling her own story in her diary. It's not a bad concept as far as RPGs go but it's unprecedented for Pokemon so it pissed a lot of people off. N is the same concept, but pulled off a little better.
