For a few centuries now, white people have had total control over all aspects of media. As such, they exert their power by controlling the narrative, painting themselves in a positive light, making themselves to be infallible or just. Meanwhile, black people are still portrayed negatively or one dimensionally for the most part.
In America, we learn about white inventors, explorers, scholars, etc. etc. etc. etc. every year. White people have tons of holidays, TV channels, TV shows, and generally endless reputation every day of the year. Black History Month—literally the shortest, oftentimes the coldest month in some areas—was designed to be like “Oh hey, here’s some of the spotlight on some of your positivity and contributions for a sec.” Sadly, that was a huge failure, as we’re only shown the accomplishments of the same five black people every year, and even then, it’s whitewashed to hell and back. Just because there’s no sign or label that EXPLICITLY says, “WHITE HISTORY MONTH,” doesn’t mean every day is not your day.
