Except Pokemon has a lower attachrate on the 3DS compared to the Switch so that's pretty moot. Though it's fallen to 16% as the Switch continued to see when LGPE was released it had a 33% attach rate, and SwSh currently sits at a 25% attach rate. Which is a huge success. Mario Kart doing better doesn't mean Pokemon did bad, it just means Mario Kart did better. Pokemon does not compete with Mario Kart, it competes with other JRPGs and it's outperformed those on the Switch by a wide margin.

As I said, over one quarter of Switch owners own a copy of Sword or Shield, 4% MORE than 3DS owners owning a copy of XY. Didn't bother checking SM's total, it sold less than XY so it would automatically have a lower user share also.
There will come a day when you learn to deal with Sword/Shield's performances compared to the pat. But it clearly isn't this day.
