For what it's worth I love Alolan Exeggutor but I absolutely think he is a fucking meme Pokemon (as a majority of regional variants have been) and it just so happened to line up with some old TCG art.
Pokemon has been running for over two decades and has endless different spinoff formats. Game Freak sure as shit aren't paying any attention to most of it but it's just statistically inevitable by now that every few years they accidentally lift something cool.
