Meganium is not a mushroom so Spore is not happening.
Strength Sap will not save it. There are other Strength Sap users who are still very poor.

The big problem with Meganium is that any buff you could introduce it still leaves it outclassed in every niche by other grass types. Really needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Meganium would become the fastest Spore user in the game.
Just give it Triage in addition and you're got a support beast. Priority Strength Sap, Heal Pulse, Synthesis, access to dual screens, Aromatherapy, priority Giga Drain.
Will it be top tier? Doubt it, but it'll at least be a decent choice. Especially in doubles.

There is zero reason to run him over Venusaur, or any other grass mon. Seriously, they have the same stat spread but with SpA and Def switched, what was Game Freak smoking? Gets way less moves too. Give it Strength Sap, Sleep Powder, Horn Leech and Rock Slide, maybe. Make Triage its HA, since it got saddled with the designated shitty ability out of the starter trio (again Game Freak what is with this shit). I was originally going to suggest giving it CM/Earth Power/Weather Ball to buff out its special coverage but Comfey already is a CM Triage user and SD Triage Horn Leech would be a niche for sure.

Note that Virizon isn't a real defensive Pokemon due to its shit defensive typing. So if you wanted to give Meganium a niche that isn't filled by other Grass-types, fast and specially defensive is the way to go.
Give it a Filter-like ability, or hell even Filter (Roots) itself, along with Strength Sap, and it would be extremely defensive. Strength Sap obviously fucks physical attackers and gets the benefit from high speed. And natural special defense + Filter means it can switch in on a lot of shit.

If meganium received triage that would really be pretty amazing. It makes a very interesting profile for doubles, a monopoly grass cleric with access to both heal pulse and synthesis. I like it a lot. And in singles priority recovery makes leech seed or curse sets that much better.
