How about 5 moves, but one of them is always Protect?
So Protect is basically removed as a proper move and just becomes an inherent command you can give to your mon.

Won't bother looking for it, but it was an interview pre-gen 8. They basically said they don't JUST focus on what the next big battle gimmick will be (dynamax), but also test out core changes just to see if its better or worse. An example was the number of moves; they said that even 5 allowed certain pokemon to be able to do anything.

I think it was the Game Informer in-depth on Sword/Shield pre-release (wanna say around sept/sept. issue) but basically what >>46137791 said, they look at the whole package and tweak and test things each Gen.

ew no, i wanted this as a kid but it would suck ass.
it would make VGC literally unplayable, it is allready WAY too time consuming to design a team and way to hard to predict moves.
I even think they should lower it to 3 moves each pokemon.
