I remember when Gen 7 came out, people who loved Ghosts tended to have the opinion that Gen 7's ghosts were trash and people that usually didn't care for Ghosts loved them in Gen 7.

I never understood why Gengar is liked so much, I genuinely think it's one of the most generic and uninspired designs out there. Gasly and Haunter were much cooler, giving Gengar legs and having him look like some fat goblin was a mistake.

The humanoid form probably plays the shadow role better, personally I prefer Haunter more but the derpy Gengar has its own charm too as a prankster and those spikes on its back you can't tell if they're a kaijuesque inspiration or a shadow stretching. Only thing I still don't know is what's Gengar's canon body and eyes color since they keep changing in almost every gen and media.
