>>46146660Kris, Leaf, and Lyra were all retroactive characters. Kris and Lyra didn't exist in Gold and Silver, Leaf didn't exist in Red and Green. Instead, they took an unnamed character that Sugimori used in the manual for an illustration as inspiration for the female protagonist of FRLG. This same illustration inspired the creation of Blue in LGPE.
Here's another issue with Kris and Leaf specifically, but they were designed to be female versions of the male protagonists. Their clothing is very clearly based on their male counterpart, and even their hair (apart from Kris' blue color) resembles them. Kris' hair looks like Gen II Ethan's bang. So you have these characters that were only added retroactively and are generally just girl versions of the male characters rather than having their own distinct look.
May was in Ruby and Sapphire.
Dawn was in Diamond and Pearl.
Hilda was in Black and White.
Rosa was in Black 2 and White 2.
Serena was in X and Y.
They were not added retroactively, they were in their games from the start and thus had a bigger impact. Nobody uses Selene's USUM art compared to her SM art because SM made a bigger impression.
My only issue is that the male protagonists have little flair to them and are somewhat lacking compared to the girls since XY (Nate and Rosa are equally stupid, but at least Rosa's cute). It's also unfortunate that the other protagonist no longer appears in the game.
Brendan/May was Birch's kid and your rival.
Lucas/Dawn was Rowan's assistant.
Ethan/Lyra was your childhood friend.
Hilbert/Hilda was your Battle Subway partner.
Nate/Rosa was your Battle Subway partner.
Calem/Serena was your neighbor and rival.
Elio/Selene, Chase/Elaine, and Victor/Gloria only ever appear as your protagonist and never as supporting characters, so fans try harder to come up with personalities for them which I think is kind of lame.
