This is the original trailer for Mewtwo strikes back

Now I’d like us to all imagine some sort of world where this movie went as planned and it ended the Pokémon TV anime with the death of Ash. Assuming Pokémon kept its popularity, a new TV anime would be made and every generation would probably get their own protagonist like the Pokémon Special manga. The general consensus among the fans is that Pokémon would be better like this and that they hate the Ashime or whatever.
Now skip forward 20 years to 2021, this board would also probably exist, but you would see many posts about how it would have been so much better if the anime kept Ash the entire time. People would say that they liked Pokémon up until Ash died (a convient jumping off point). There would probably be “only 90’s kids remember” type posts all over ifunny, 4chan, YouTube, and reddit wanting Ash back. This would, without a doubt, be the mainstream opinion.
All of Pokémon and it’s discussion is like that. It’s people wanting a fake reality that they would ultimately hate only to miss the point. They just want to be a kid again and are bitching about modern life. That doesn’t dismiss the gradual objective drop in quality in both the games and their accompanying media, but it’s just something to think about.
Go outside and make memories now. I understand that the world is bitter, but this is no way to live. You started to like Pokémon because either you had a lot of friends when you were little and started getting into this or because it simulated those feelings for you. I’m not saying that you have to stop playing Pokémon entirely, but maybe if you decided to put yourselves out there, a lot of you here would stop. You can’t hold onto the past forever. It’s time to move on.
