Look at this crowd. Just look at the size of this crowd. This is the crowd that showed up to watch my 8-year-old newbie ass fight Milo's two whole Pokémon. Do they just come out every week to watch Milo be a jobber again and again and again?
It's stupid, and Sword and Shield are stupid. I don't want to be the popular hero, I want to go on a God-damn adventure.

His point is that some shitty level 15 gym battle with a combined 4 pokemon involved where the leader is just going to have their entire team each taken down in one hit has no fucking allure or tension and there's no reason for 20,000 fucking people to cheer on in the stands as well the whole thing unfolds. Battles have had spectators since forever. It makes since if you stop viewing battles in terms of game logic and start viewing them as what they actually are (what the anime shows them to be)

The Galar gym battles are a yearly event against a small number of challengers who got sponsored. These are limited time sporting events against trainers who allegedly aren’t scrubs.
Moreover, it might not even be the same gym leader fighting in the same stadium every year due to how Galar ranks leaders for the gym challenge yearly.
Not to mention that there’s also dynamax to add to the spectacle.

It's a game aimed at children...

But it would make total sense for people to want to watch matches of importance live, like we watch sporting events live (pre-pandemic).

The Gallar pokemon league would surely want to capitalize on matches. You know, like any sports organization.

If anything GF were retarded for not doing this before (with a few exceptions, like the electric gym in Unova).

Canonically, the number of people who lose to Milo are far greater than any other Gym Leader.

He's the first road block in the Galar region, the first to have a lore established order you fight the gyms in, and most trainers are not the "Chosen One." or their rival. And any the greater number of them are completely unimportant to your quest so it's really easy to not notice.

You say that, but even as the games become more detailed and less abstract in their art, towns continue to be hilariously small.
They could've added some inaccessible buildings as a backdrop, but they've chosen not to, which means the only logical conclusion is that the towns actually are that tiny.
This isn't a problem exclusive to gen 8, by the way. The problem has just gotten worse every gen.
