I love em. It's one of the creatures that attracted me to the series in the first place, I remember seeing an ad for pocket pikachu on the page next to the ad for the games, which was my first exposure to pokemon at all.
He was a cute little shit, and the anime only helped me love him more. I got pokemon red, but my copy of it was stolen, so I ended up having Yellow version as my game of choice. I ended up raising a pikachu in every generation that it was available since then.
I do have some issues now though, it's hard not to see him as an icon for corporate greed on the same level as Mickey Mouse these days, plus Pikachu ( and Ash for that matter ) are way too hyper in the anime now, they're not even the same character, the VA may still be the same one since the 90's but they don't know how to be cute in subtle ways anymore, it just screeches all it's cries at max volume and is way too anthropomorphic now.
They even managed to ruin fat pikachu by "Bringing him back" as Gimmick-maxing, which won't matter in the next generation anyway.
It's so hard to say, I really like the little dude but i'm so mixed on what he's become.
