imo not really. you have to learn rock/paper/scissor patterns, battles run on a life system, and once you get Rathalos you can forget the rest of your team because switching in lowers your super bar. among other things

yeah if you know how to play you just get mole, king slime, gigantes, wight king, malroth, zoma.
Wouldn’t advise doing it for first playthrough though because it makes the game stupid easy

Do you go on a quest in this game? I heard somewhere you're on an island or something and it's a Shin Megami Tensei like game where you travel between locations from a map instead of with an overworld.

Pokemon is basically just linear Dragon Quest 1-7 with a monster catching gimmick, and even Dragon Quest did monster taming in DQV before pokemon was ever a twinkle in Taijiri's eye.
