Having 3 versions seems weird, and I think people would have a bigger problem with those 3 being unable to evolve. Having a Chimchar as my shoulder mon would be cool though.

LGPE didn't decide on new starters, they used the starter Pikachu from Yellow and then the rival's starter Eevee from Yellow as the starters. No other game has something like that.

There is no reason to assume the remake will be identical to LGPE. They could easily drop the "shoulder partner" feature and act like choosing your starter instead is "epic and nostalgic!!"

Actually it's the opposite. Based on interviews they view Let's Go as an experiment, so even if you think they're closer to the original core of the series GF does not see it that way.

LGPE were weird. They took the definitive version of gen 1, Yellow, and then split it into two separate versions anyway. On top of the fact that Yellow itself was made later to appeal to fans of the anime, since Jessie, James etc. never existed in the original games.

Centro made it clear in his posts that the Diamond Pearl remakes are a separate thing entirely from a Let's Go continuation. He said that a Let's Go continuation is a long ways off.
